I helped Joi with a self-help memoir, during which we sat down for many interviews. This sample is drawn from a larger conversation I had with Joi about childhood ambition, the Los Angeles music scene, working inside Qwest Records, becoming part of Jade, and the lessons artists still need to understand about the business behind the dream.
