What Retainers Are & How They Work
Retainers are designed for clients who want ongoing, high-quality writing support without the stress of constantly booking individual projects. Instead of paying per task or per hour, a retainer is offered at an often discounted price and reserves dedicated writing time each month that is applied wherever your project or brand currently needs it most.
Whether you’re building a personal brand, launching products, writing a book, or developing long-term content, retainers provide structure, consistency, and momentum while still allowing flexibility as your needs evolve.
Each month, deliverables are scoped and agreed upon in advance. Retainers do not include unlimited tasks or unlimited word counts. Larger projects (such as full website rewrites, complete press kits, or long-form brand narratives) may be scoped as the primary focus of a month’s allocation.
Why I Predominantly Use Retainers
Retainers provide the most ease and best results for ongoing, creative, and collaborative projects. They allow me to give clients consistent attention, organized workflows, and thoughtful storytelling without rushing or cutting corners. This approach supports long-term collaboration, better creative outcomes, and realistic timelines, especially for projects that naturally evolve over time (like books, branding, or ongoing content!)
Rather than forcing work into rigid packages or fragmented hourly sessions, retainers allow your project to move forward organically while still maintaining clear boundaries and expectations.
Monthly vs Quarterly Retainers
Clients may choose to book retainers on a month-by-month basis or commit to a quarterly (3-month) retainer.
Clients who choose the quarterly option receive a 10% discount as a thank-you for committing to consistent collaboration and reserving ongoing availability. Both monthly and quarterly retainers are billed upfront to secure scheduling and project continuity.
Retainer Billing & Policies
Retainers cover up to a set number of working hours or deliverables per month, depending on the retainer selected. Unused hours/deliverables do not roll over and are non-refundable. Additional hours, if needed, are billed at $30/hour, subject to availability.
All retainers must be paid in full before work begins, no exceptions. This includes both monthly retainers and quarterly commitments.
Retainers are non-refundable, even if a client ultimately requires less work than anticipated or chooses to stop early. The only exception is if I am unable to deliver the agreed-upon work on my end. If that should ever happen, I will refund you immediately.
Paying Upfront + Peace of Mind
Paying upfront ensures your time is fully reserved and your project is prioritized. If you’d like reassurance before committing, I encourage you to review my testimonials and past client feedback! I maintain a strong professional reputation with consistent 4–5 star reviews.
Additionally, payment platforms such as PayPal, Stripe, etc. offer buyer protections and dispute processes, which means clients are never without safeguards.
And as my work history shows, when working with me, you can expect transparency, professionalism, and trust, always.

Did you know you can get 50% off any writing or marketing service or package of your choice? (Twice!)
If you are a musician or creative who’d like to participate in the Creative Spotlight Series, reach out! You’ll receive a one-time discount code for 50% off after the completion of your interview!
You’ll also receive a referral “thank you” perk: if you refer another creative to be featured in the series, you’ll receive an additional 50% off any writing service of your choice once their interview has been completed.
These two offers cannot be combined, but can be used on two separate occasions. You can enjoy 50% off up to two services or one service and one package. Discounts cannot be applied to retainers.
Pricing Accessibility
I believe artists from marginalized or underrepresented communities deserve access to high-quality narrative support. Sliding-scale or negotiated pricing may be available on a limited basis upon request for artists facing systemic barriers, financial hardship, or lack of industry access, depending on the project scope and availability.
