The AmiPositivity Project - Fan Engagement & Community Building Case Study

For this project, I built and managed a fandom community ecosystem. The AmiPositivity Project allowed me to gain experience with content creation, social media management, marketing, utilizing digital toolkits, leadership/team management, outreach/collaboration, & monitoring/evaluation. The project’s objectives were to (re)create a positive & supportive community for Army on Twitter & provide fun activities, games, events, projects, etc for Army to look forward to. I put together a team of 20+ admins, & we worked together to create activities, events, & projects with the intention of spreading positivity. All material in this portfolio was created by me.

I can be a leader when necessary – I’m a shy introvert, and I enjoy working alone. However, I learned that I am good at leading when I must. Managing an ever-changing team of twenty or more admins who had never previously met or spoken to each other and all lived in different time zones, had different availability, different skills, and different interests–and getting them all to act as a cohesive team with no miscommunications and no drama while assigning them roles that they were both interested in and best-suited for–proved to be challenging, but I was able to do it due to my communication, organizational, and time-management skills, as well as my willingness to work tirelessly to meet the important deadlines I set for myself to ensure everything went smoothly.

There is a massive level of responsibility needed to lead a large team, grow a new account, and host events all at once – I knew when starting this project that it would take a lot of hard work, and yet, I cannot stress how severely I underestimated how much work it would take. Even the most minuscule details had to be thought of in advance to ensure things stayed on track and were done correctly, and everything had to go through me. I was responsible for all the behind-the-scenes technicalities. This taught me to manage high-stress and large workloads. I was in charge of everything from holding meetings, building websites and workspaces, and outlining content calendars, marketing strategies, content strategies, and task briefs for admins. All while still taking on creative responsibilities by doing things such as designing graphics, hosting radio shows, creating games, hosting game nights, brainstorming new, fun ideas for activities and events, and more. As a result, this project pushed me past my limits, forced me way out of my comfort zone, helped me master my time management and organizational skills more than ever before, and helped me learn and develop new skills that I hadn’t previously even thought of.

I’m more of a problem-solver than I thought – During the course of this project, the road was much more bumpy than smooth. Every day there was a new problem that I needed to overcome. I really enjoyed how challenging it was. I was forced to get creative and think outside the box to figure out what issues were and how I could best fix them. Last-minute changes forced me to think on my feet.

I’m a creative above all else – I learned that while I may be capable of taking on a leadership position, I’ll forever prefer focusing on the creative side of things. I love getting to brainstorm fun ideas, express myself through my writing, create graphics, and do other creative things. It’s where my passion 100% lies.

The importance of analytics – This was a fun, personal project so I didn’t think to monitor analytics until the project was near the end of its course. If I’d monitored the analytics more & sooner, I would’ve been able to adjust accordingly and increase following/interaction much faster.
