October 12th–17th brought a little bit of everything to K-pop. Two of the industry’s biggest award shows revealed plans for their upcoming ceremonies, HYBE announced a major step in its international expansion, and several artists reached commercial milestones that would have seemed almost unimaginable a decade ago.
There were also developments worth paying attention to beyond the numbers and big-name announcements. Entertainment companies shared plans for their next generation of artists, streaming platforms introduced new ways to experience Korean music, and emerging acts continued carving out their own identities. With so many different corners of the industry making news, there’s quite a bit to catch up on.
HYBE Announces First International Weverse Con Festival Lineup
HYBE is taking Weverse Con Festival outside South Korea for the first time, with India as its first international destination. On October 16th, the company revealed the lineup for Weverse Con Festival India, scheduled for March 27th–28th, 2027, in New Delhi.
The two-day event will feature 15 acts, including TXT, ENHYPEN, LE SSERAFIM, Hwasa, Eric Nam, BUMZU, Dayoung, Lee Hyun, and Lara Raj of KATSEYE. Lara’s sister, singer Rhea Raj, will also perform, alongside Indian artists King, Gini, RANJ X CLIFR, Reble, and DJ Zelo.
HYBE India and BookMyShow Live will co-produce the festival, which brings together performers from Korean pop and India’s contemporary music scene. Ticket presales begin October 27th, followed by general sales on October 30th.
The announcement builds on HYBE’s October 7th confirmation that Weverse Con would expand internationally. Previously held in South Korea, the festival has brought together artists from within and outside HYBE’s roster.
For Indian K-pop fans, the new edition represents another opportunity to experience Korean artists without traveling abroad. Its inclusion of local musicians is also noteworthy: the company isn’t simply reproducing a Korean concert lineup in a new location, but attempting to create an event that brings different music communities together.
Melon Music Awards Expands to Two Days and Introduces Global Top 10
The Melon Music Awards is preparing for its biggest format change yet. On October 14th, Kakao Entertainment announced the final 11 performers for MMA2026, completing a lineup of 26 acts across the ceremony’s first-ever two-day edition.
The event will take place November 14th–15th at Seoul’s Gocheok Sky Dome. The first day, designated Global Day, will feature I.O.I, aespa, NCT DREAM, ATEEZ, RIIZE, TWS, RESCENE, Hearts2Hearts, and several emerging artists. The second, Music Day, will bring IVE, CORTIS, KiiiKiii, NCT 127, PLAVE, NCT WISH, ILLIT, and others to the stage.
Among the newer additions are bands and groups such as Dragon Pony, hrtz.wav, IDID, and TUIDE. Their participation gives the event room to spotlight developing acts alongside its established headliners.
However, the lineup isn’t the only significant change. Kakao is introducing a Global Top 10 award connected to the Global-K Chart, which combines chart data from South Korea’s Melon, China’s Tencent Music, and Japan’s LINE MUSIC. The category’s evaluation includes chart performance, judging, and fan voting.
A new Cheering Board will also allow fans to post supportive messages to participating artists through Melon’s platform.
Taken together, the changes suggest that MMA is placing greater emphasis on international participation, both in how it measures musical success and how fans interact with the ceremony. Whether the expanded format becomes a permanent part of the awards remains to be seen.
BTS Becomes the First Group to Reach 10 Billion Spotify Streams in a Single Year
BTS has added another record to its already lengthy list of achievements. On October 16th, BigHit Music announced that the group had surpassed 10 billion Spotify streams in 2026, becoming the first musical group to reach that figure within a single calendar year.
Solo artists, including Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Bad Bunny, have previously reached the milestone, but BTS is the first group to do so, according to the agency.
The achievement follows the March release of ARIRANG, the group’s first full-group album in nearly four years. According to BigHit Music, the album alone had accumulated over five billion Spotify streams, while BTS’ total streams had more than doubled from approximately 4.5 billion in 2025.
The numbers are especially notable given the circumstances surrounding the release.
ARIRANG marked BTS’ return as a seven-member group after completing their mandatory military service, ending a lengthy period when members focused primarily on individual activities.
The album also spent three consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, becoming the first album by a group to accomplish that since Mumford & Sons’ Babel in 2012.
BTS’ streaming record is another indication of the enormous audience that remained engaged throughout the group’s hiatus.
YG Entertainment Shares Plans for Two New Idol Groups
YG Entertainment has offered another glimpse at the artists it hopes will lead the company into its next chapter.
On October 14th, executive producer Yang Hyun-suk published a statement through YG’s official channels outlining the company’s upcoming releases and the progress of two new idol groups. The agency is developing a five-member boy group and a four-member girl group, the latter currently known under the project name NEXT MONSTER.
Both groups are expected to record additional demo songs before the end of 2026. However, YG hasn’t confirmed their debut dates, explaining that those decisions will come after the groups’ title tracks have been selected.
The lack of a confirmed schedule is particularly noticeable for the boy group. Yang previously indicated that YG was aiming for a September 2026 debut, a date that has now passed without the group’s official launch.
The statement also outlined upcoming activities for YG’s established artists. BABYMONSTER will release “DESERVE” on October 23rd, with another album planned for early 2027. TREASURE will follow with “SHOCK” on November 2nd, continuing the hip-hop direction explored on its June mini album, NEW WAV.
YG expects to share further information about the new groups toward the end of the year. For now, their member counts and ongoing preparations are confirmed, but fans will have to wait for the debut dates.
Kakao Entertainment Says Fandom Is Central to Its Business Strategy
K-pop fans have long demonstrated how organized communities can influence music consumption, publicity, and commercial success. Kakao Entertainment is now openly discussing how that participation fits into its wider business plans.
On October 12th, the company published remarks made by co-CEO Joseph Chang at the Milken Institute Asia Summit in Singapore on October 8th.
During a discussion about Korean culture’s international growth, Chang described fandom as fundamental to how K-pop operates. He compared artists and creatives to the heart of the industry, with fans functioning as its lungs.
It’s an unusually direct way for a major entertainment executive to describe something fan communities have understood for years: organized listeners do a considerable amount of work supporting the artists they care about.
Chang also explained that Kakao wants to connect its music and entertainment properties with services involving fan communities, e-commerce, ticketing, and live entertainment. Rather than treating those activities as separate experiences, the company envisions an interconnected system through which audiences can engage with artists.
There’s a business advantage to that approach, of course. Fans who use multiple services within the same ecosystem create additional opportunities for companies to generate revenue. At the same time, the quality and accessibility of those experiences matter to the communities being served.
Kakao’s comments offer a useful look at how major entertainment companies are thinking about the relationship between their artists, their platforms, and the audiences sustaining both.
tripleS Returns With All 24 Members for “Andless”
Keeping track of a K-pop group with 24 members is already quite an undertaking, especially when those members regularly participate in different units and projects. On October 16th, tripleS brought the full lineup together for a new release.
The group returned with “‘LOVE&POP’ pt.2,” featuring the title track “Andless” and its accompanying music video.
The song incorporates energetic electronic-pop production and continues the group’s ASSEMBLE26 LOVE&POP project, following the first installment released earlier this year.
For readers unfamiliar with tripleS, the MODHAUS group is particularly notable for its unusual organizational structure. Its 24 members participate in different subunits, with fan involvement playing an important role in aspects of the group’s wider creative system.
That structure allows tripleS to release music through smaller combinations of members while periodically returning to full-group projects. The distinction makes an all-member comeback a noteworthy part of the group’s schedule, especially for listeners who primarily follow individual units.
“Andless” also arrives as tripleS continues touring, giving fans another chance to experience the group’s full lineup together.
NCT WISH Sells Over 1.2 Million Copies of I SPY on Its First Day
NCT WISH’s latest comeback began with another major physical-sales achievement.
According to Hanteo Chart, the group’s fourth mini album, I SPY, sold 1,200,086 copies on its first day following its October 12th release.
The achievement makes I SPY NCT WISH’s second album to surpass one million first-day sales, following Ode to Love. It’s also the group’s fourth consecutive release to exceed one million copies during its first week.
The six-track mini album includes the title track “I SPY,” alongside “We Own This Street,” “UPGRADE,” “Super Major,” “Hubble Time,” and “Like a Dream.”
SM Entertainment also reported strong early chart activity beyond physical sales. All six tracks entered Melon’s Top 100 and Hot 100 charts, while the album performed well on several Korean and Chinese music platforms.
NCT WISH, the youngest unit within the larger NCT project, has built a strong buying audience in a relatively short time. The group’s sales offer another example of how strongly physical albums continue to perform in K-pop, where fans often collect multiple editions and album-related merchandise while also listening digitally.
NCT DREAM Confirms November Comeback With DREAM AFTER DREAM
NCT DREAM has officially announced its next release.
On October 16th, the SM Entertainment group revealed plans to return November 9th at 6 p.m. Korean time with DREAM AFTER DREAM.
The project will follow Beat It Up, released in November 2025, ending an approximately year-long gap between the group’s major releases.
The announcement was accompanied by an initial teaser, with further promotional materials expected as the release date approaches.
NCT DREAM has spent much of its career developing a distinct identity within the wider NCT system. Unlike NCT’s other units, DREAM debuted with an age-based concept before becoming a fixed seven-member group, allowing the members to continue working together as they grew older.
That history has made the group’s musical development an important part of its appeal. With another full-length project approaching, fans will soon have a new release through which to follow that evolution.
For now, the confirmed details are the release date and project title. More information about its songs and concept is still to come.
Jennie and Tame Impala’s “Dracula” Returns to Billboard’s Top 10
The world still hasn’t had enough of “Dracula.”
The collaboration between Tame Impala and BLACKPINK’s Jennie climbed to No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 during the chart week reported October 14th, jumping six positions from the previous week.
The song has now spent 20 consecutive weeks in the chart’s top 10 and previously reached a peak of No. 5.
Originally released by Tame Impala in October 2025, “Dracula” received a remix featuring Jennie in February 2026. The collaboration later gained traction on short-form video platforms, helping extend the song’s popularity.
Lisa Reveals New PRESS PLAY Details Ahead of October 23rd Release
Lisa has given fans another preview of her next solo project.
On October 13th, the BLACKPINK member revealed the track list for her upcoming EP, PRESS PLAY, which is scheduled for October 23rd.
A day later, her company LLOUD shared a new preview of “Tarantino,” one of the songs being promoted ahead of the release.
The project follows September’s “SaWaDiKa,” which attracted considerable attention for its music video and became one of 2026’s fastest-growing K-pop-related releases on YouTube. The video reached 200 million views, providing another major visual milestone in Lisa’s solo career.
Lisa’s activities outside BLACKPINK have increasingly involved establishing a separate musical and visual identity. Through LLOUD, she has been developing projects that allow her to pursue collaborations, sounds, and creative concepts under her own name.
With PRESS PLAY arriving later this month, listeners will have another opportunity to see how that direction is developing.
The October 13th track-list announcement and October 14th preview add to the rollout, although the full project remains unreleased as of this reporting period.
Rosé Will Perform at LACMA’s Annual Art+Film Gala
BLACKPINK’s Rosé is heading to one of Los Angeles’ major cultural fundraising events.
On October 13th, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art announced that the singer will be the musical guest at its 2026 Art+Film Gala on November 7th.
The event will honor visual artist Vija Celmins and filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, whose work includes Dune, Arrival, and Blade Runner 2049. LACMA trustee Eva Chow and actor Leonardo DiCaprio will co-chair the evening, while Gucci returns as the presenting sponsor.
The annual gala raises money to support the museum’s programs and its work connecting visual art and film.
Rosé’s participation places her alongside figures from the film, fashion, and fine-art worlds, reflecting the increasingly varied cultural spaces occupied by major pop performers.
The announcement also comes as members of BLACKPINK continue developing individual careers alongside their work as a group. Rosé’s solo activities have taken her into international pop music, fashion, and now another prominent Los Angeles cultural institution.
Further details about her planned performance haven’t been announced.
Hearts2Hearts Becomes the First Artist Featured in Spotify CLOSER
Spotify has introduced a new performance series focused on Korean music, and Hearts2Hearts is leading the way.
On October 16th, the streaming platform launched Spotify CLOSER, a series combining exclusive live performances with conversations intended to give audiences a different look at artists and their creative work.
Hearts2Hearts, the SM Entertainment girl group that debuted in February 2025, is the first featured act.
Its installment includes live performances of “ICONIC HEART (Korean Version)” and “Baby Steps,” an acoustic arrangement of “Butterflies,” and a conversation with the members recorded during the group’s Seoul showcase.
According to Spotify, Hearts2Hearts has accumulated more than 530 million streams in 2026, with its monthly streaming numbers growing nearly twentyfold since debut. The group’s song “RUDE!” has also surpassed 180 million streams.
Spotify plans to expand the series with additional artists, including ALLDAY PROJECT and LNGSHOT.
The format offers something slightly different from the music videos, interviews, and short-form promotional content typically associated with a comeback. By keeping performances and artist conversations within its own platform, Spotify is experimenting with how streaming services can offer fans experiences beyond audio listening.
Rookie Group DAILY Releases Its First EP, WHICH WAY
Among this week’s smaller releases, DAILY is beginning to establish what kind of group it wants to be.
The six-member boy group, managed by ODDWAVE, released its first EP, WHICH WAY, on October 14th, approximately eight months after debuting with “FIRST” in February.
Members EN KIM, Kim Joo-hyoung, Lim Ji-hwan, E-VAN, Lee Won-woo, and Jang Yoon-seok introduced the project during a press event in Seoul.
The six-track EP explores questions about love and personal direction, incorporating alternative hip-hop, rock, and pop influences. Its title track, “WHICH WAY,” uses an energetic arrangement and a chant-focused performance style to express uncertainty about where a relationship or personal journey might lead.
The group has also incorporated fantasy-inspired visuals into the release, including a prince motif that plays with romantic ideals and self-perception.
Speaking with The Korea Times, Lee Won-woo said he wanted the group to become known for adapting to different genres and concepts.
That ambition makes WHICH WAY an interesting early-career project. DAILY is still introducing itself to listeners, but the members are already emphasizing musical flexibility rather than committing to one narrowly defined style.
