This Week in K-Pop: October 1st – 10th, 2026

Written by Matilia

October is shaping up to be an extremely busy month in K-pop, and the first ten days have already delivered plenty to talk about! With record-breaking achievements, major crossover opportunities, long-awaited returns from veteran artists, and a growing list of comebacks, the industry has a lot going on.

Here’s a look at some of the developments worth catching up on, plus a calendar of October’s releases.

BTS Becomes the First Pop Group to Surpass $500 Million in Tour Ticket Sales

BTS has reached another major touring milestone. According to Billboard’s Boxscore figures, reported by The Korea Times, the group’s ongoing ARIRANG world tour has surpassed $500 million in ticket sales, making BTS the first pop group to achieve that figure with a single tour.

They’re only the seventh group overall to reach the milestone, with the previous six all belonging to the rock genre.

The numbers behind that achievement are substantial. In August alone, BTS performed 12 concerts, drawing approximately 800,000 attendees and generating $171.7 million in ticket revenue. With dozens of performances still scheduled, Billboard projects the tour could eventually gross $1 billion.

Beyond the record itself, BTS’ achievement shows K-pop’s growing commercial strength as a global live-music force, with demand extending well beyond streaming numbers and digital chart performance.

KATSEYE is bringing its music to another major international stage. The six-member global girl group is scheduled to perform at the 2026 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on October 18th in Los Angeles, joining an all-women musical lineup featuring Tate McRae, Megan Thee Stallion, and Megan Moroney.

The performance represents another crossover moment for the group, which was developed through a partnership between HYBE and Geffen Records. Although KATSEYE isn’t a conventional K-pop act, its formation and artist-development model are closely connected to the Korean music industry’s global expansion.

Their appearance follows a particularly successful year, including their EP WILD reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and the launch of their first arena tour.

Performing at an internationally recognized fashion event places KATSEYE in a broader pop-cultural space, reflecting how the K-pop industry’s influence increasingly extends beyond traditional music markets.

Lisa’s “SaWaDiKa” Music Video Reaches 200 Million YouTube Views

BLACKPINK’s Lisa has reached another YouTube milestone with her solo single “SaWaDiKa.” On October 8th, the music video surpassed 200 million views, becoming the first music video released in 2026 by a K-pop artist to achieve the figure. According to Soompi, it took approximately 34 days following the video’s September 4th release.

The milestone arrives during a solo era that places particular emphasis on Lisa’s Thai heritage. “SaWaDiKa,” which is named after a Thai greeting, was filmed in Bangkok and features various locations throughout the city, linking the visuals to her cultural roots.

The single also serves as a preview of her upcoming EP, PRESS PLAY, scheduled for release on October 23rd. Its early viewership success gives the project considerable momentum heading into release week.

While newer groups continue to dominate the comeback calendar, several of K-pop’s earliest stars are returning to the spotlight.

Fin.K.L, the influential girl group that debuted in 1998, is preparing to resume full-group activities after more than two decades. Rather than a brief reunion, the members are planning a two-year project leading up to their 30th anniversary, with new music and performances expected.

R&B duo Fly to the Sky is also preparing a comeback, with members Hwanhee and Brian working toward their first new group music since 2019.

Meanwhile, g.o.d member Son Ho-young released his solo single “Go Around” on October 14th, marking his first solo music in five years and celebrating the 20th anniversary of his solo debut.

These returns offer newer K-pop listeners an opportunity to discover artists who helped establish the industry’s foundations, while longtime fans get to experience new chapters in their careers.
