Review: Miley Drops the Cyrus and Falls for the Dance Floor on Bass Persuades

Written by Ikheloa Nathan

Miley Cyrus is now just Miley, and her tenth studio album, Bass Persuades, arrived on September 18th through Atlantic Records. The ten-track project follows 2025’s Something Beautiful with a new name, a danceable pulse, and a heart set firmly on love. Across roughly 38 minutes, it plays like a love story told from the first spark to the quiet aftermath, and it holds together better than most albums of its size.

The title track sets the tone with an emo edge before the beat opens up. Every instrument lands exactly where it should, and the song practically tells you to let the music flow through you. It works like a welcome mat for everything that follows.

“Let’s Get Married” is where the album turns sentimental. It sounds like a classic love song – the kind you would sing to a high school crush to show exactly how you feel. “Orbit” slows things down with a soft, sweet opening and keeps that gentle rhythm from start to finish. It captures the pull of being attracted to someone and wanting to stay close to them.

Then comes “Aftermath,” my favorite song here. The pace picks up, and the lyrics fire off questions at a former lover: Do you remember everything? Do you miss me? It’s the moment when the music, energy, and emotion all line up, and the flow is lovely from the first second to the last.

“REDLIGHTS” returns to a gentler place with a clever idea. A red light usually means danger, but Miley doesn’t care. She wants to follow her lover’s light wherever and whenever, which is a beautiful way to flip a warning sign into an invitation. “Neon Signs” turns up the heat. It craves love, attention, and affection, with a meeting point under a glowing neon sign, and it’s easily the album’s most sultry song.

“Innocent Ways” is a treat for anyone who enjoys a well-built rhyme scheme. The instruments are lovely, and the beat moves fast while her voice stays calm – a contrast that works incredibly well.

“Snow” feels like a story or a photograph of two lives together, a quiet moment to catch your breath before the finish, and the album closes with “Bass Persuades Remixx,” a faster take on the opener. The proper instrumental intro and quicker beat give the song a different kind of passion, so it feels like a fresh track rather than a repeat.

Overall, Bass Persuades is a splendid album with great instrumentation and a strong sense of rhythm. It isn’t trying to reinvent pop. It wants you to move, feel something, and maybe text someone you miss. Miley sounds comfortable in her new name and new lane.

If you like pop that leans into the dance floor while keeping its heart on its sleeve, this is an easy album to press play on. “Aftermath” is my pick, but the whole project flows well enough to play front to back.

Miley’s Bass Persuades is out now.
